IPL 2022 Live: On Friday (May 20), Yuzvendra Chahal’s fantasy for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 came true when Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The senior Indian leg-spinner claimed two wickets for 26 runs. Chahal got things started by removing veteran CSK middle-order hitter Ambati Rayudu for just three runs. Thanks to a brilliant catch at slip by Devdutt Padikkal. Find the IPL results and IPL 2022 match predictions here on our site.

Sanju Samson, the RR captain, took a significant risk by giving Chahal the ball for the 19th over of the innings, but Chahal came through for his team once again by taking the crucial wicket of MS Dhoni. Chahal’s dismissal of Dhoni was his 26th of the season. This makes it the joint-best spinner campaign in the IPL’s history.

IPL 2022 LIVE: Imran Tahir Got Same Number Of Wickets In 2019 Season

Chahal tossed up away from Dhoni’s striking arc on the last ball of his over. The CSK captain swung over the line but only got it off from the bat’s toe end. The ball soared high in the air but fell short of clearing Buttler at long-on. Chahal’s dismissal of Dhoni was his 26th of the season.

This makes it the joint-best spinner campaign in the IPL’s history. Chahal is tied for the most wickets in an IPL season with Imran Tahir. Tahir got the same number of wickets for CSK in the 2019 season, helping them reach the final. Bet online by checking more cricket betting tips from our professional expert tipsters.

IPL 2022 Live: Yuzvendra Chahal Equals Imran Tahir’s All-Time Record With MS Dhoni’s Wicket
Imran Tahir (2019)26
Yuzvendra Chahal (2022)26
Wanindu Hasaranga (2022)24
Sunil Narine (2012)24
Harbhajan Singh (2013)24

This is also Chahal’s best IPL season to date. When he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015, he eclipsed his previous high of 23 wickets. Chahal’s debut season with RR is in 2022, as RCB decided not to keep him ahead of the blockbuster auction. RR bought the 31-year-old in the auction for Rs. 6.50 crore and coupled him with Ravichandran Ashwin to form one of the best spin-bowling combinations in IPL history.

With RR certain of a playoff berth, Chahal will have the chance to surpass Tahir’s total and become the only holder of the record. Chahal took two wickets in the penultimate league game against the Chennai Super Kings, giving him 26 wickets and reclaiming the Purple Cap from Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who has 24 wickets in 14 games. After Chahal (26 wickets) and Hasaranga (24), Kagiso Rabada (22 wickets), whose Punjab Kings team has been eliminated from the playoff race, is the third-best wicket-taker this season, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Umran Malik (21 wickets).

If RR finishes in the top two, Chahal will have at least two chances to not only surpass Tahir’s 26 wickets but also to break Dwayne Bravo and Harshal Patel’s record of 32 wickets in a single season.
