Siraj had quite a horror show in (IPL) 2022 season with Royal challengers Bangalore (RCB). Siraj had an economy rate of 10.07 with only nine wickets from 15 games. In the previous edition of the IPL, he had an economy of 6.78, indicating a significant drop in his performance. However, the bigger humiliation was being hit for a whopping 31 sixes, the most by any bowler in the tournament’s history.

However, the ex-India cricketer has also pointed out that if they release Siraj and fail to buy him back, it will a big problem.

”If you release him, whom will you get, that’s a big question because you will have to get an Indian bowler. You can buy him back cheaper actually, he will not be sold for seven crores now,”

Despite Siraj’s poor performance, RCB advanced to the IPL 2022 playoffs. The squad’s other bowlers, Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, and Wanindu Hasaranga, all contributed significantly to the bowling department. Debutant Akash Deep also did a good job in limited opportunities and Chopra said that RCB could have given more chances to the Bengal lad.

“You have an overseas bowler in the form of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel has done very well, Akash Deep was not too bad at the start as well. You wanted to hold on to him (Siraj), I thought that was a great idea but the season has not been good,”

Chopra added

In the last two years, Siraj has grown by leaps and bounds in international cricket across all formats. He will, however, strive to ensure that he returns strong in the upcoming assignments in order to maintain his place in the team. The lanky pacer has vowed to make a strong comeback in the one of Test against England. Want to bet on cricket on the move? Discover India’s best betting apps here on our site.
