IPL 2022: The T20 carnival is about to start on March 26 and the whole world is waiting for that moment. All the IPL franchises are busy preparing for the coming season. On the other hand, they have also appointed Paddy Upton as the “Team Catalyst.” Malinga, who is known as the best death bowler in the world, has won four IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians. He has also worked as a mentor for MI in the 2018 season. The 38-year-old last played his IPL match in the 2019 season for MI. Although he has also mentored Sri Lanka’s national team against Australia in a five-match T20I series last month.

Malinga also has experience of winning the T20I World Cup, when he led his team to the T20I title in 2014. And arguably, he is the best pacer in the IPL with the most wickets (170) in the tournament’s history. And now, in his new role with RR, he will work with the fantastic set of bowlers in the team and will also help the young pacers improve with his experience of playing T20 cricket around the world.

Talking about his new role with Rajasthan, the 38-year-old said that he is happy to be back in the IPL. Malinga stated that the RR has always promoted young talent. He further added,

“I am excited by the pace bowling unit we have going into the tournament. And I am looking forward to supporting all the fast bowlers with the execution of their game-plans and their overall development. I’ve made some very special memories in the IPL with Mumbai Indians and now with Royals, looking forward to new experiences and creating great memories in this journey.”

Kumar Sangakkara will resume his duties as the head coach from last season. Paddy Upton makes his comeback to the team as he has already served as the head coach in the 2013-2015 seasons and then again in 2019. Rajasthan Royals made it to the top four under him in the 2013 and 2015 seasons and also qualified for the Champions League in 2013. As the Director of the franchise, Sangakkara welcomed both the new members of the team. He further added,

“to have a personality like Malinga in the training ground, and the expertise he brings to the table, is certainly something we feel the team can benefit from. We have some of the best fast bowlers in our squad and we are delighted that they will have the chance to work with Lasith and get to learn and develop further.”

RR will play Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match of the season on March 29th at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
