New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been traded from Gujarat Titans to Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gujarat Titans have also traded Afghanistan star batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz to KKR ahead of the IPL mini-auction 2023.

Ferguson was bought for Rs 10 crore at the IPL mega auction earlier this year. He played 13 matches for Gujarat in the IPL 2022 season, claiming 12 wickets at an average of 35.58 and an economy rate of 8.95 and a best of 4/28 against Delhi Capitals (DC), which is also his best-ever figures in the IPL career.

Overall in his IPL career, the express pace bowler has taken 36 wickets in 35 matches at an average of 29.86 and an economy rate of 8.43. He returns to KKR after having last played in 2021. England’s top order batter Jason Roy was ruled out before the start of the IPL 2022, which allowed Gujarat to draft in Gurbaz as a replacement player. However, the explosive young batter failed to play a single game in the gone by season.

IPL 2023: Lockie Ferguson, Rahmanullah Gurbaz Released by GT; List of All Trades

Earlier on Saturday, November 12, Australian left-arm bowler Jason Behrendorff became the first cricketer to be traded ahead of the IPL 2023 season. Behrendorff moved from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) back to Mumbai Indians (MI). Before the IPL auction is scheduled to take place in the coming time, the BCCI has announced that the total budget per franchise is set to increase from Rs 90 crore to Rs 95 crore.

Earlier in February, the BCCI conducted a mega auction, during which 204 players were bought (out of a maximum possible 217 slots that were open) by the ten franchises. A total of Rs 551.7 crore was spent to sign up 107 capped and 97 uncapped players. The breakdown of sold players was: 137 Indians and 67 overseas.

IPL’s Governing Council has ordered all the franchises to submit their list of retained players by November 15. Unlike the 2022 mega auction, when two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – were added and the old guns could retain a maximum of four players, there is no such cap for the mini-auction of IPL 2023.

List of Trades Ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction:

  • Jason Behrendorff traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Mumbai Indians.
  • Lockie Ferguson was traded from Gujarat Titans to Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz traded from Gujarat Titans to Kolkata Knight Riders.
