Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs to reach their second consecutive playoffs. This year’s IPL season has been great for the defending champions but more so for the opener Shubman Gill. Prior to the start of this edition, Shubman Gill had a test century, an ODI century as well as a T20i century. Picking up his fantastic form, the young opener was able to add another milestone to his name.

After the match, former player turned commentator Aakash Chopra couldn’t stop himself from speaking about Shubman Gill. In his latest YouTube video, Aakash Chopra spoke about Gill’s importance in the team, Shami’s marvelous performances in the powerplay, and more. The Gujarat Titans opener has a great record at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Therefore, the former player added that he was “unstoppable” on this ground.

Most valuable player of the match, Shubman Gill says Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra Says Shubman Gill Is Unstoppable at Ahmedabad

“The most valuable player of the match – Shubman Gill. Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma picked up four wickets apiece, so we could have gone towards them as well but the job Shubman did was different. Was it a pitch on which 220 runs should have been scored? Maybe yes, maybe no, but the guy has struck another century. He is unstoppable when he comes to this ground. He had an average of 75 before this match and it would have gone a little higher now. He has a strike rate of more than 160 on this ground,” Aakash Chopra said. Before this year’s IPL season, Shubman Gill was not considered the best batter in the shortest format.

The player showcased immense improvement and became only the second Indian player to score an IPL century in 2023. In 13 games with 576 runs, this is Gill’s best IPL season since his debut. The Gujarat opener already has scored 4 half-centuries and 1 century this year. Moreover, with the kind of form he is in, it will be no surprise if he adds another half-century under his belt and finishes the season with 600+ runs. Interestingly, Gill will also play WTC Finals next month and these runs will provide him with great confidence.
