DC vs GT: “He Is Forever Getting Younger”- David Warner Lauds Ishant Sharma After DC’s 5-Run Win vs GT
DC vs GT: On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans produced a thrilling contest that ended in a low-scoring affair. The defending champion found it hard to chase a below-par target of 131 runs and fell short by five runs. As a result, the Delhi Capitals registered only their third win of the season. It was veteran Indian pacer Ishant Sharma who held his nerve and bowled a brilliant last over when GT required 12 runs to defend.

It started with DC skipper David Warner winning the toss and electing to bat first. However, that decision totally backfired on him, as the home team lost its first five wickets for just 23 runs in five overs. It looked like DC would record the lowest IPL total. However, a 50-run partnership between Axar Patel (27) and Aman Khan saved them from that. Then, Aman also added 53 runs with Ripal Patel (23 off 13). Aman made his maiden IPL fifty and scored 51 off 44. DC reached a respectable total of 130/8.

DC vs GT: “Ishant was so clear with what he wanted to execute”- David Warner
Defending a small total against a strong GT team, the DC bowlers bowled in a tight channel and troubled the Gujarat batters. The defending champion also lost their first four wickets for 32 runs. However, skipper Hardik Pandya played a cautious inning and made 59* off 53, but GT only reached 125/6. Ishant gave away only six runs in the final over and won it for Delhi. DC captain David Warner also praised the bowlers, especially the veteran Indian pacer. In the post-match presentation, Warner said,
“Khaleel did well after coming back from injury, and Ishant is forever getting younger. I was nervous when Tewatia was going off, he has a reputation for that kind of stuff. Anrich is our most consistent death bowler, but couldn’t get it right today. But Ishant was so clear with what he wanted to execute for us. Credit to the way Aman and Ripal played from then on to get up that score.”
That win has given Delhi two important points. Though they are still at the bottom, they are alive to give it a go for a place in the playoffs. DC needs to win all five of their remaining games. On the other hand, the defending champions are still at the top despite the loss. DC will play their next game at home against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
