David Miller is one of the best finishers in world cricket. The player is easily capable of snatching victories from the opponent’s mouth. However, despite being well known for his skills internationally, it took some time for David Miller to establish himself in the Indian Premier League. The South African batter made his debut for Punjab Kings nearly a decade ago and was part of the team for eight years before being released.

Barring the first year (2012) in IPL, David Miller showcased some great performances in 2013, 2014 as well as 2015. But, the following 4 years weren’t that great for the batter averaging around 30 or below. In the year 2020, David Miller was picked by Rajasthan Royals but barely got an opportunity to do well. It was when he became the part of the Gujarat Titans franchise, his form changed, and was able to put forth what was expected of him.

One bad season that I had, I kind of just got written off: David Miller

“I Kind of Just Got Written Off,” Says David Miller on His IPL Form

The South African batter acknowledged that while he was getting his fair share of runs in international cricket, it was just IPL that wasn’t clicking for him. David Miller noted in an interview with ESPN Cricinfo that it’s difficult to miss games or get lost in the crowd because of a few poor results. The 33-year-old explained that he overcame his terrible performance by working harder and having confidence in himself.

“I wouldn’t say professional sport is easy. Outside of the IPL, I’ve done really well internationally, domestically. It’s just the IPL, where that one bad season that I had, I kind of just got written off. I knew what I was capable of. It was just a matter of getting a really good run and opportunity. So I trained really hard and tried to become a better player. The biggest thing for me is just the mindset rather than technical faults and stuff like that. But I’m probably looking to play more on the back foot than the front foot,” David Miller said.

In the last season, David Miller in 2022, he scored 481 runs in 16 games. In the ongoing season so far he has 180 runs with an average of 45.00. Gujarat Titans are currently at the top of the table with 12 points. The defending champions will now face Rajasthan Royals in their next game at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
