IPL 2022: 3 Issues With Punjab Kings (PBKS) Squad That Needs To Be Resolved
IPL 2022: At the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru, Punjab Kings (PBKS) purchased 23 players. But the Punjab Kings (PBKS) still aren’t among the favorites for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) crown. This is despite them having a strong auction. The team’s shaky history in the IPL is the main reason for this. As they have consistently failed to produce good results despite having a good lineup. Here’s the complete IPL Team List and 2022 Season match prediction.
Prior to the auction, they had only retained two players, Mayank Agarwal (14 crores) and Arshdeep Singh (4 crores). PBKS’ main auction purchases were experienced Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan (8.25 crore) and South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada (9.25 crore).
PBKS has only made one IPL final appearance since 2008. Thus, expectations are low this year as well, despite assembling a quality roster. They also bought England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow (6.75 crores) and West Indies all-rounder Odeon Smith (6 crores).
Here are three major flaws in the PBKS squad for the IPL 2022 season that could be solved in the future:

3. PBKS’ bench isn’t the most powerful
PBKS may have filled their roster to the maximum of 25 players, but one may argue that they did not choose enough match-winning backup players. While PBKS’ starting XI is one of the strongest in the IPL 2022, their backups aren’t quite as solid. Of course, when you spend a lot of money on a couple of superstar players, you have to make budget purchases to balance things out.
2. PBKS are missing a quality middle-order batsman
Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan are expected to begin the batting for PBKS, with Jonny Bairstow in the top four. Punjab, on the other hand, should have done better in the middle-order, given that they entered the auction with the greatest purse of 72 crores.
While they have most of the bases covered in the squad, they are missing one excellent middle-of-the-order batter. Without wishing to disparage any of the individuals, PBKS could have added a couple more match-winning players to their roster.

1. The pace department at PBKS Lack in Depth
On paper, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Odean Smith appear to be a decent attack. However, based on recent form and statistics, PBKS may be lacking in the pace department. Perhaps they became a little too engaged in their planning and lost track of the plot.
Rabada has cost a lot of runs in the last two IPL seasons, and he’s also conceded a few runs for South Africa. While Arshdeep is a promising young cricketer, he is still only 23 years old and is yet to play international cricket. Smith isn’t a solid powerplay option or a death-overs specialist, and Rishi Dhawan and Raj Bawa aren’t exactly encouraging.
