IPL 2022 Auction: Country-wise Money Spent on Players in Auction
IPL 2022 Auction: India’s own T20 cricket league, IPL, lives up to its expectations every year. Since the inception of the league in 2008, every year it has taken a step up and has given more points to talk about. The Indian Premier League is not only the richest league in the world but also the richest league in terms of players. Every year it signs some of the best cricketers from around the world. Here is the Prediction of the IPL 2022 Match.
Since day 1 of the mega auction, the excitement of IPL has started. We witnessed legends like Suresh Raina, Eoin Morgan, and Dawid Malan not getting any bids. Also, players like Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar attract a large sum of money. IPL has become a global media sensation because of the quality of overseas players it has seen in the past.
This year as well, some of the best players from different cricket-playing countries have been sold for a large chunk of money. Without wasting any more time, let’s look at the country-wise expenditure done by different IPL teams on the players.
Country-wise Money Spent on Players in the IPL 2022 Auction
7) Bangladesh – 2 Crore
It was not a good auction for the players from Bangladesh. It was a shock to see Shakib Al Hasan not getting any bids from any team during the event. According to recent performances, IPL teams knew that there will be a low turnaround for the Bangladeshi players. This time around, there was only one player from the country who was bought.
Mustafizur Rahman, who registered himself for a base price of 2 Crore, got sold for his base price only. He will be a part of the Delhi Capitals during the 2022 season. Rehman has special skills to bowl during the death overs and if given a chance, he will prove worthy for Capitals. It will be interesting to see how he performs under the leadership of Rishabh Pant.
6) Sri Lanka – 14.45 Crore
There were predictions that, except Wanindu Hasaranga, no Sri Lankan players will find a place in IPL 2022. The number bowler from Sri Lanka has received a hefty contract from the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Wanindu Hasaranga has been dominating world cricket for nearly eight months. He is a street-smart cricketer and has turned out to be the highest wicket-taker.
Another Lankan player who found his place in IPL with Chennai Super Kings is Maheesh Theekshana. The mystery spinner was bought for 70 Lakhs by Dhoni’s team. Theekshana will be acting as a replacement for Imran Tahir and looking at his credentials, it was a steal for the franchise.

5) New Zealand – 43.35 Crore
New Zealand has become an important team in world cricket and in the IPL tournament. Their contribution to the trophy is increasing with every season. In international cricket, they have won the first World Test Championship and have reached the finals of major tournaments. The consistency shown by the Kiwi players has been a major contributor to the success of their cricket.
As Kane Williamson was retained by SRH, all eyes were on other star players like Jimmy Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell. Both the players went to Rajasthan Royals. Another major Kiwi star, Trent Boult, will be seen with the Royals as well. It will be interesting to see how the management plans their playing eleven for the Royals.
4) South Africa – 44.30 Crore
There was a time when South African cricket dominated the international circuit and the Indian Premier League. With the likes of Miller, AB de Villers, and Faf du Plessis, the T20 league was an event to watch. It was a piece of disappointing news when de Villers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. However, Faf and Quinton de Kock will be making their presence felt in the new season.
Quinton has joined hand with Lucknow Giants and Faf will be seen playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. With KL Rahul on the other side, Quinton will be playing his best game. For Faf, it will be an honor to play with the likes of Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell.
3) Australia – 58.90 Crore
There is no surprise that Australian players always dominate IPL with their presence. There is also no second thought that Australian cricket dominates the World T20. They proved that they are still the strongest team in the shortest format of the game. Like IPL’s contribution to Indian cricket, BBL has a major contribution to Australia’s T20 cricket.
This time, the Australians collectively went for INR 58.90 crores, becoming the third-highest gainers in the mega auction. After a disappointing IPL 2021 season with SRH, David Warner joined his old team Delhi Capitals. He was joined by his teammate Mitchell Marsh. Mathew Wade has made a comeback to IPL and will be seen playing for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. He bagged a deal of INR 2.4 crore.
2) England – 64.85 Crore
England has become a heavyweight in the T20 format of cricket. In 2022, they have made a contribution of 64.85 Crore in the IPL mega auction. English cricket witnessed a complete change since the 2015 World Cup. They have become a major contributor in all the T20 cricket leagues in the world.
Johnny Bairstow breaking the INR 5 crore barrier and he will prove himself to be the biggest asset to the team. Liam Livingstone has again become a part of IPL. The shock was Eoin Morgan not getting sold and Alex Hales singing Kolkata Knight Riders. Mumbai Indians, because of their long-term planning, signed Jofra Archer.
1) India – 485.30 Crore
Since the inception of IPL, Indian players have become the center of attraction of the tournament. Not only in IPL, when it comes to any format of cricket, but team India has also been a dominant force. This is not surprising as there is no upper limit of how many Indians can be in the line-up.
Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player of the mega-auction. He was signed by Mumbai Indians for a price of 15.25 Crore. Another costliest player, Shreyas Iyer, went to KKR for 12.50 Crore. Adding on, uncapped fast bowler Avesh Khan was sold for INR 10 crores as well. The quality of talent which comes through the IPL is commendable and helps team India to win matches.
