IPL 2022 Auction: The Unsold XI of the Mega Auction
Murali Vijay
The right-handed opener from Tamil Nadu embodies elegance in his strokeplay and is an effortless scorer of runs. Vijay has represented India across all three formats and was the first-choice opener in Tests until a few years back. Though he couldn’t a permanent spot in ODI, his IPL form in the initial years of the tournament was exemplary. Vijay has two centuries to his name in the IPL and has immense experience of playing in the tournament.
Ben McDermott ✈︎ (wk)
The wicket-keeper batsman from Australia, Ben Mcdermott plays for the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL and was in the form of his life this year. Ben was adjudged Player of the Tournament for being the leading run scorer with 577 runs at a strike rate of 153.86, in BBL 2021-22. He is a clean striker of the cricket ball and has a safe pair of hands behind the wicket.
Suresh Raina
A veteran of the IPL, Suresh Raina is one of the most successful and experienced players in the tournament. Raina has been a part of the tournament since 2008. He is a prolific run scorer and was the backbone of Chennai SuperKings all these years. He was the leading run scorer in the tournament until the 12th season of the IPL and has scored over 400 runs every year, barring two seasons. Raina is possibly the best fielder India has produced and can very well play the role of sixth bowler.
Eoin Morgan ✈︎
England’s World Cup winning captain, Eoin Morgan, is a great proponent of T20 cricket. The swashbuckling batsman is good at scoring runs under pressure and possesses leadership skills. Eoin Morgan led the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 and scored oppulently that year. His power-hitting and ability to stay calm in pressure situations makes him a valuable asset in T20 leagues across the world.
Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav was embossed in national cricket as a finisher when MS Dhoni slipped into the evening phase of his career. Kedar flourishes as a batsman and has the ability to score briskly. He was the mainstay of the Indian team’s middle-order between the 2015 and 2019 World Cup and was entrusted to finish the games for the team. His success in the national team raised his value in the parallel world of the IPL. Jadav is also a handy bowler, though with weird bowling action.
Ben Cutting ✈︎
Ben Cutting is a fast-bowling all-rounder from Australia. He has a presence in the shortest format of the game. Ben is a fierce hitter of the cricket ball and is an effective bowler. He was instrumental in SRH’s title win in the IPL in 2016 with his match-winning knock of 39 off 15 balls, followed by a crucial two-wicket spell in bowling. Ben can score briskly and provide strength and depth to the bowling line-up.

Pawan Negi
Spin bowling all-rounder Pawan Negi gained recognition after bagging a whopping Rs 8.5 cr deal with Delhi Daredevils in the IPL in 2016. He flourished when he moved to RCB camp the following season, only to become their leading wicket-taker that season. Pawan Negi is quite handy with the bat as well and can send balls over the ropes easily if needed. He bowls slow left-arm and is rather more difficult to hit than it seems.
Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is a conventional leg-spinner. He also disguises his googly perfectly and is not afraid to toss the ball up the batsman. Mishra is an experienced campaigner in the IPL and has picked up 166 wickets in 154 innings of the game. He has been a consistent performer in the IPL and is the only player to pick up three hat-tricks in the history of the tournament. Mishra is a good turner of the ball, however, and uses variations as tools in his bowling. He, alongside Pawan Negi, can prove to be a formidable spin duo for any team.
Andrew Tye ✈︎
Andrew Tye belongs to the league of modern-day bowlers. He can bowl slower bouncers and wide yorkers and is quite economical in the T20 format. Therefore, one of the most sought-after bowlers in the T20 leagues around the world. Tye is not very quick and relies on his variations to succeed in the contest with the bat. He shot into the limelight by picking up a hat-trick that was en route to his fifer in his debut match in the IPL. Tye is a difficult bowler to play with and troubles the batsman by choking them on runs.
Ishant Sharma
A mainstay of Indian Test bowling, Ishant Sharma is a seasoned campaigner. Ishant is tall, extracts movements from the pitch, and can bowl consistently in 140Kmph. He, however, hasn’t been as successful in the shortest format as he was deemed to be. Ishant has decent figures in T20 cricket, given the nature of the game.
S Sreesanth
Sreesanth was part of India’s triumph in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 and four years later, lifted the 50-over World Cup trophy. He was pivotal in India’s title win in T20 WC in 2007 by providing crucial breakthroughs. Everything was going well for him until he was slammed with a lifetime ban in 2013, which was later lifted in 2019. Sreesanth is a decent swing bowler and has been grinding in domestic cricket since his ban was lifted in 2019. He has had decent outings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament and Vijay Hazare 50-over tournament.
Sreesanth would make a decent bowling attack comprising Ishant, Tye, and Ben Cutting.
