As per the understanding, quadricep tear takes a few weeks to recover. It is, therefore, estimated that Deepak might miss the initial few weeks of the IPL, if not the entire tournament.
Deepak Chahar was CSK’s most expensive buy and the second most expensive buy at the IPL mega auction. Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad were in a bidding war to rope in Chahar. The tussle was was later joined by Rajasthan Royals and CSK.
Chahar has been a part of CSK since 2018 and was bought for INR 14 cr this year. CSK had a strategy to rebuild the same core group from last year. Though they had released Deepak Chahar ahead of the auction, they were relentless on the auction table to rope him back in.
Chahar has risen on the scene as a dependable bowling all-rounder and has performed splendidly in his last few games for India. His batting exploits with match-turning knocks of 69* (against Sri Lanka), 54 (against South Africa), and 38 (against West Indies) have given the impression of a long-sought genuine bowling all-rounder for India.
He is an effective swing bowler who leads with the new ball. In his 58 matches for CSK, Chahar has 58 wickets with the best figures of 4/13. Out of these 58 wickets, 42 have come in the powerplay. His delay in recovery is sure to disturb CSK’s bowling setup.
