IPL 2022: Mega auction of IPL 2022 is concluded. But cricket fans are seeking any updates. They are still in unrest about the venues and the schedule for the upcoming T20 league. The Board of Control for Cricket in India and broadcasters Disney have yet to finalize the exact start date for the 15th edition of the IPL. BCCI and Disney Star are having varying views on the start of the IPL 2022.

BCCI is now considering broadcast partner Star India’s request to start IPL 2022 on March 26 instead of March 27. The broadcasting partner wants the board to advance the date by a day. As it will fall on a Saturday, paving the way for a double-header on Sunday. But as said earlier BCCI is yet to give a green signal for the request. Committee will make a final decision by next week and then they will public the IPL schedule. The BCCI had promised to come back to the franchises about the schedule and venue by February 20. They are trying if they can league spread for more venues considering that the Covid threat to the league has considerably reduced. However, there is every likelihood that the BCCI will settle for Maharashtra (Mumbai and Pune).

IPL 2022: Bcci and Star Considering Start of IPL From 26th March, Schedule Out by Next Week

“I cannot reveal the details of the negotiation that is taking place between the BCCI and the broadcaster. But yes, we are still in the discussion to finalize the dates. It will start in the last week of March. The start is still under discussion,”

a senior BCCI official

However, it could be a win-win situation for both if they start IPL 2022 on March 26. As of March 26 is a Saturday, so three matches could be done by the first weekend. Indian players will also be well on rest as their series against Sri Lanka gets over by March 16.

However, Australian players will miss one more match. As Australia’s Pakistan series gets over only on 31 and players will have to enter a five-day quarantine session. So they can only join by April 6. English players, who are in the Test squad for the West Indies tour, have to miss at least the first three matches. England’s West Indies series gets over on March 28 and a further five-day quarantine will ensure they also join by April 5. Looking for more IPL betting tips? Read more here on our site.

IPL 2022 : Franchise Official About League’s Schedule

“We understand that a Saturday start helps the broadcaster to kick-start the league with a bang with three matches in the first weekend. A Sunday inauguration would not permit that. The BCCI and the broadcasters were in discussion over this and eventually it could be on March 26,”

a franchise official in the know of the negotiations

Authorities have kept in their eyes The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). They have identified the four grounds – the Wankhede, the Brabourne, DY Patil Stadium, and Pune ground for the matches. But the challenge for the BCCI and the MCA has been to provide practice facilities for the 10 IPL teams.

Last heard the MCA is working on this. Meanwhile, in a recent communication to the commentators, Star has asked them to be ready from March 19 to June 7. PL 2022 is likely to start on March 26-27.

“At the onset, wanted to check with you on your availability for IPL 2022 on the world feed broadcast. So request you to please provide your availability not only for the tournament but probably say minus 8-10 days from the start date and plus five days from the end date to be safe, so effectively from 19th March 2022 to say June 7, 2022 (sic),”
