Though Dhawan is a trusted and renowned batter in IPL, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that he is often neglected. The spinner believes that Dhawan isn’t hyped enough as other players take the limelight.

“Shikhar Dhawan deserves praise as he has scored over 6000 runs. He is not talked about as much as other players and some are given too much attention. Dhawan is an IPL legend in himself. He has scored runs against all the opposition and proved himself,”

Harbhajan Singh said while speaking with Sportskeeda.

Shikhar Dhawan was picked by Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 mega-auction after he was released by Delhi Capitals. In IPL 2022 so far, the 36-year-old has collected 381 runs at an average of 42.33. He is the third-highest run-getter in the league so far after Jos Buttler and KL Rahul. Speaking about Dhawan’s role in Punjab, Harbhajan exclaimed that the opening batter is a perfect fit for the batting unit. The spinner believes that partnerships are more important as compared to hitting big shots. The 41-year-old reckoned that Dhawan is the kind of player who can play the role of an anchor and stay in the middle for long.

“His role for Punjab is to bat responsibly and does not give his wicket away and that’s his weapon. We all like shots that Livingstone plays, but what’s important is the partnership. When a team needs 60-80 runs from a batter, Dhawan is always there. I think he will dominate Prasidh Krishna,”

The 41-year-old added.

Harbhajan opens up Kagiso Rabada’s poor run in the first few games

Further in the interaction, Harbhajan Singh also elaborated his opinion on Kagiso Rabada. The seamer is another player who was part of the Delhi Capitals last season and was picked by Punjab during the auction. Rabada looked completely off-color in the first few games of IPL 2022.

However, he has made a sensational comeback in the competition. Rabada has picked a whopping nine wickets in the last three games. He is now third in the purple cap list with 18 wickets from ten matches.

Harbhajan believes that Rabada failed to make an impact in the beginning as he didn’t back his strengths. Rabada was more focused on generating some swing from the surface instead of getting his line and length correct.

“In the first 6-7 games, his performances were not up to the level of expectations. He is not a swing bowler. He hits the deck and initially, he tried to swing the ball. Although he got a few wickets, he also was taken for runs and I don’t think he has been hit for so many runs in his career. He was trying to do what wasn’t his strength,”

Harbhajan Singh concluded.
