IPL 2022: Virat Kohli has explained his decision to quit the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captaincy ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Kohli stepped down as RCB’s captain at the end of IPL 2021. He said it was a simple and straightforward call for him as he wanted some space and time to handle his workload. Rubbishing the speculations surrounding his decision, Kohli said that it is tough for people outside the profession to understand the decisions taken by cricketers. “I’m not someone who holds onto things more than I should. Even if I know I can do a lot more, if I’m not going to enjoy the process, I’m not going to do it. It’s very difficult for people to understand your decisions unless they are in your situation. From the outside, people have their own expectations ‘Oh! How did that happen? We are so shocked’.

“There’s nothing to be shocked about. I explain to people, I wanted some space and I wanted to manage my workload and the story ends there,” Kohli said.

The 33-year-old batsman also quit India’s T20I captaincy last year before he was sacked as India’s captain in the 50-over format. Following India’s 2-1 series defeat in South Africa, Kohli gave up India’s Test captaincy as well, ending his seven-year tenure as the Indian skipper.

“There was actually nothing at all. I keep my life very simple and basic, when I wanted to make a decision, I made a decision and I announced it. I didn’t want to think about it and contemplate it for another year. That would’ve done nothing to me, nothing to the environment I’m part of. Quality of life is something very important to me. And the quality of cricket is something very important to me.

“Over a period of time, you want to do what you’re doing day-in-and-day-out and you want to do as much as you can, but at the end of the day, you have to realize that quality is far more important than quantity,” added Kohli on the same podcast.

RCB are yet to name new captain

IPL 2022: RCB is yet to name their new skipper ahead of the IPL 2022. Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis are considered to be top contenders for the job.

Across 10 years, Kohli captained RCB in 132 matches but failed to lead the side to the coveted trophy. The last time RCB reached the final was in 2016, when they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

RCB retained Kohli, along with Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the 15th edition of the tournament. Looking for more Online IPL Betting Sites? Check it out here on our site.
