IPL 2023: Punjab Kings achieved a rare feat in the IPL’s history
For Punjab, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma were the stars with the bat. Both batters scored 119 runs for the second wicket in just 8.4 overs, which changed the whole scenario of the match. PBKS were looking to end around 170-180 at one stage but went on to cross the 200-run mark and ended at 214/3. It was their fourth consecutive 200-plus total in the last four games.
With this, the Punjab Kings became the first ever team to post 200 or more scores in four games in a row. No other team has achieved this feat in history. Prior to this game, PBKS scored 201/6 against CSK and won by 4 wickets. Earlier, PBKS scored 201 against LSG while chasing 258. Though, the 214 against MI didn’t help, the five-time champion chased down the target and won by six wickets.
Ishan Kishan (75 off 41) and Suryakumar Yadav (66 off 31) scored half-centuries to take their team to a dominating position. Tilak Varma (26 off 10) and Tim David (19 off 10) gave the finishing touch. This win pushed MI over PBKS to 6th place. Both teams have 10 points each, but Mumbai has a better NRR of -0.373 as compared to Punjab’s -0.472. Punjab will play their next game on May 8 against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
