“We Couldn’t Retain Him”: Stephen Fleming

“It still hurts us, that [not being able to buy him at the auction]. He tortured us in the nets for several years, but with the auction and the way it is, we couldn’t retain him. And the thing is, with the Tamil Nadu players all around the different teams, they knew about him as well, and we could not keep him a secret. He went for a big price that first year. He had some injuries, and now he looks fit. When you have [Sunil] Narine and him operating, they’re a potent combo in the right conditions.”

Fleming said

The former captain of New Zealand claimed that Varun and Sunil Narine are unplayable when the conditions are in their favor, noting that turning tracks are unavailable in Kolkata.
