Punjab’s start to the match was not ideal, as Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed in the second over with just nine runs on the board. However, Shikhar Dhawan stabilized the innings with a strong powerplay, forming a brisk partnership with Matthew Short. Dhawan, who was looking in excellent form, was dismissed by his former Indian teammate Piyush Chawla after a fiery innings at the top of the order. Mumbai Indians regained the momentum after Dhawan’s wicket, and Short struggled to get going due to the field restrictions. But Akash Madhwal’s 11th over gave Punjab the much-needed impetus, leaking 16 runs.

The highlight of the match, however, was the stunning partnership between Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma. The duo’s power-hitting was a masterclass, as they smashed 119 runs in just 53 deliveries. While Jitesh remained unbeaten on 49 runs off 27 deliveries, Livingstone hammered 82 runs in 42 deliveries, taking Punjab to a massive total of 214 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Mumbai Indians had no answer to the Livingstone-Sharma partnership and were blown away in the middle overs. Overall, it was a brilliant effort from the Punjab batters, with Livingstone’s innings being the standout performance.

Mumbai Indians started the chase in horrific way as their skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck in the very first over. A 54-run partnership between Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green steadied the ship for MI. But Green’s dismissal by Nathan Ellis led to a collapse of PBKS innings. However, Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav added a 116-run partnership off just 55 balls, with both batsmen attacking the opposition bowlers.

MI was cruising towards the target, but PBKS got a much-needed breakthrough when Ellis dismissed Suryakumar in the 15th over, after the right-hander had scored 66 runs off just 31 balls. Kishan was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in the next over, but the match was already out of PBKS’s reach. Tim David and Tilak Varma steered their team home in the 19th over with an unbeaten partnership of 38 runs.

Despite losing their captain Rohit Sharma early, Mumbai Indians bounced back strongly and dominated the game throughout. Kishan was the top scorer for MI with his brilliant knock of 75 off just 41 balls, while Suryakumar’s 66 played a crucial role in their victory.
