Joe Root Opens Up on His IPL 2023 Experience

After sitting in the dugout for the first half of the Indian Premier League, Joe Root finally made his debut 2 games ago. While he neither got an opportunity to bat nor to bowl in the first game, the player was more than happy to be part of the team. Nonetheless, in the Rajasthan Royals versus Kolkata Knight Riders match, he was given a couple of overs to bowl. The player opened up on his experience of being part of IPL.

Joe Root said that spending a lot of time talking about Test cricket with Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara has been a wonderful experience. He explained that ahead of The Ashes 2023, he thinks that their suggestions can benefit him against Australia because England is eager to reclaim the urn. England will host this year’s clash and Joe Root is a crucial part of England’s batting line-up. The team has been dominating under the leadership of Ben Stokes and will be keen to win the Ashes this time.

“It’s been great, I’ve really enjoyed it. It has been a bit different, but I’ve had some really good and interesting conversations with coaches and ex-players out here about Test cricket. I spoke with Brian Lara about batting for a few hours, which was really insightful. At this stage of my career and where I am as a player, I feel like that is where I am going to learn the most by picking people’s brains and thinking about what I can add to my own game and taking it forward into the next few years,” Joe Root said.

Former England skipper Joe Root who is predominantly famous as a test batter also spoke about T20 cricket. He added that while IPL has helped him gain some insights about white-ball cricket and T20, the highlight for him has been spending time with Kumar Sangakkara. Speaking of Rajasthan Royals, the team looks in good shape with almost everyone contributing to the victories now. They will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings. It is a do-or-die situation for all teams with strong competition for the playoffs.
