KKR vs RR: It was a record-breaking night on Thursday at the Eden Gardens. Fans were treated to some extraordinary cricket from the Rajasthan Royals, while Kolkata played poorly in both departments of the game. It was only Yashasvi Jaiswal who took the game out of KKR’s reach and made a mockery of the 150-run target. It started with Sanju Samson winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Kolkata had a poor start, and none of the batters really got going.

They kept losing wickets at short intervals. Venkatesh Iyer looked good for a while and scored a fighting half-century. He made a 42-ball 57, with two fours and four sixes. In the end, KKR ended with a low score of 149/8 in the first inning, courtesy of a brilliant spell from Yuzvendra Chahal. The veteran leg-spinner picked up 4/25 and became the leading wicket-taker in the IPL’s history, surpassing Dwayne Bravo (183).

In the second inning, Jaiswal set the tone in the very first over. He smashed Nitish Rana for 26 runs in the first over, which pushed KKR out of the game to some extent. He smashed the fastest IPL fifty off just 13 balls and took his team over the line in just 13.1 overs. His inning was worth watching, and many former cricketers praised the youngster.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri went on to say that the left-hander will be the first thing on the selector’s mind when they select a T20I side after the IPL. In a discussion on Star Sports, Shastri praised the left-hander. When asked about Jaiswal’s chances for the maiden Indian call, the former head coach said,

“For someone who is 21 years old, he has come up the hard way. Immediately (How soon will he get an India call-up?). The selectors would love seeing what they are seeing. They would love to see such a talent after a long wait, someone who is so good across all formats. And especially, in white-ball cricket, in T20 cricket, he walks into the side irrespective of who’s there. His will be the first name picked.”

The left-hander was unfortunate that he couldn’t get to his century. He was not out on 98 from 47 balls, with 13 fours and five sixes. On the other hand, Samson also scored a 29-ball 48 not out. RR gained two more points and moved to third place on the table.
