Marcus Stoinis came in to bat at the number 5 position after the dismissal of LSG skipper Krunal Pandya. Seeing two right-handed batters on the crease, MS Dhoni straightaway handed over the ball to his experienced campaigner Ravindra Jadeja in the 7th over of the LSG innings.

Ravindra Jadeja conceded just 3 runs off the first 4 deliveries after which Marcus Stoinis was under pressure to play a big shot. Furthermore, on the 5th delivery of his over, the CSK all-rounder pitched the ball outside the leg stump which sharply turned away and went on to crash the top of the off-stump.

Marcus Stoinis couldn’t believe his luck after the dismissal and stood there with utter disbelief as Jadeja had bowled one of the best deliveries of IPL 2023. When he saw the CSK players including skipper MS Dhoni celebrate, he started to take a long walk back towards the pavilion.

After the dismissal of Marcus Stoinis, the Lucknow Super Giants couldn’t get any momentum in their innings till the 15th over. Apart from Ayush Badoni, none of their batters could score freely against the CSK spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, and Maheesh Theekshana in spin-friendly conditions.

Ayush Badoni eventually remained on the crease till the last over trying to change the fortunes of the LSG team as he played an unbeaten knock of 59 runs off just 33 deliveries including 4 monstrous sixes. Lucknow Super Giants had scored 125 runs after losing 7 wickets in 19.2 overs when it started drizzling and the match was stopped for a while.
