Rajasthan Royals Coach Kumar Sangakkara Speaks About the Loss
A season that started on a great note for Rajasthan Royals very quickly slipped out of their hands. For the most part of the first leg of the IPL 2023, Rajasthan Royals were on the top of the table. However, now, the team is nowhere near the top 4 and the playoffs look like a distant dream. RR’s 112 runs defeat against RCB has forced their net run rate to take a hit. After an embarrassing loss last night, coach Kumar Sangakkara opened up on the team’s mistakes.
Kumar Sangakkara explained that it was a poor batting approach from the Rajasthan Royals batters. He further added that rather than RCB bowlers picking up wickets, it was the batters who threw them away. After the openers were dismissed, skipper Sanju Samson’s attempt cost him his wicket. When questioned about it, Sangakkara said that one person cannot be held responsible because the entire batting unit failed. Apart from Shimron Hetmyer and Joe Root, none of the batters were in double digits.

Rajasthan Royals coach Kumar Sangakkara calls batting approach “poor”
“It was a poor batting performance. We bowled well to keep them under 170, which on this pitch was going to be a good chase. I think we got a little bit carried away in the powerplay. Thinking that we had to score too many runs there and try to be ultra-positive. It was a case of trying to build partnerships but unfortunately, we were five down coming out of the powerplay that was probably the end of the game. In T20 cricket, you are going to get out. Unfortunately, we lost way too many wickets in the powerplay,” the Rajasthan Royals coach said.
Chasing a target of 172 runs, the Rajasthan franchise could only reach 59 in 10.3 overs. This is their second-lowest score in the competition. Speaking about the qualification scenario for Rajasthan Royals, they have only one game against Punjab Kings. Both Punjab Kings, as well as Rajasthan Royals, are still in the contention for the playoffs. However, last year’s runners-up will now have to depend on the results of other teams to know where they stand by the end of this season. RR vs PBKS will take place on Friday, May 19.
