Gujarat Titans (GT) assistant coach Aashish Kapoor commended vice-captain Rashid Khan’s outstanding performance against Mumbai Indians (MI), despite losing the game. He stated that the Afghanistan star has established himself as a top all-rounder in the T20 format. Rashid single-handedly put up a show for Gujarat Titans in their 27-run loss to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. He played brilliantly, scoring an unbeaten 79 runs off just 32 balls, including ten sixes and three fours.

The Titans’ chase of 219 runs was off to a bad start as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Their middle-order failed to get going against the Mumbai Indians bowlers, leaving them struggling at 100-6. However, Rashid showcased his batting prowess in the packed Wankhede Stadium, taking on the Mumbai Indians bowlers from the get-go, and scoring quick runs to prevent a big-margin defeat against Rohit Sharma’s side.

Kapoor praised Rashid for his excellent batting and called him a top-class all-rounder in the T20 format during the post-match presentation. Rashid’s performance was a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing game for the Titans, and his all-round skills make him a valuable asset to any T20 team.

“We all know that Rashid is a top-class player. There is no doubt about it and people look at him as a spinner but he has proven that he is a top all-rounder at least in this format. Till right now, he didn’t have to bat. I think he has batted just one ball before this game. Last year he got a lot of batting, and he won a lot of matches for us. This year this is the first time where he got a decent inning, where he got some balls to bat and he almost pulled it off,” Gujarat Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor said in the post-match press conference.

Despite his incredible effort, the bowling all-rounder was unable to lead his team to a victory against the Mumbai Indians. He came very close to achieving the impossible, but he did not receive enough support from his teammates, which led to falling short of the target. Rashid emerged as the only warrior for the Gujarat Titans as he valiantly fought to keep his team in the game, but unfortunately, it was not enough to secure a win for his side.
