Ravi Shastri Applauds Faf Du Plessis’ consistency

A leader is one who leads from the front and this is exactly what Faf Du Plessis does. Virat Kohli has always been a leader who stood up for his team when needed. After Du Plessis replaced him last year, fans were skeptical about how the captain would lead. The year 2022 wasn’t that great for both Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis but this year they are on a roll.

A lot has already been spoken about the team’s dependency on Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell. However, it seems like Du Plessis is enjoying playing in the IPL. When he used to play for the Chennai Super Kings he was the team’s most consistent player and the story has been no different here. Whenever the team has been in need, Faf Du Plessis has stood up rock solid.

In the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow SuperGiants, the pitch was on the slower side and was extremely difficult to bat on. Both Virat Kohli and Faf made sure that they stick around for as long as possible. While Virat had to move back to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs, the skipper stayed playing a little bit longer. Faf Du Plessis was finally dismissed on 44 runs by Amit Mishra. Nonetheless, his runs were extremely important for the team as they won the match by 18 runs at the end.

Speaking about Du Plessis, commentator Ravi Shastri couldn’t stop himself from praising the batter. “Faf du Plessis applies himself well after gauging the pitch. When the going gets tough, he rises to the occasion. He has done it in the past as well for CSK. When the pitch is tricky, he holds the fort and that’s exactly what he’s doing this year for RCB,” Ravi Shastri said.

It was a collective effort from the team that helped them defend the lowest total (126 runs) in the IPL 2023.During the post-match presentation, Faf Du Plessis said, “We played really well in the first six overs. That’s when you can play the same way. To have a fifty partnership in the six overs was match-changing. Batting first was important. Spinners were hard work. If you can bowl the ball on a good area, it’s pretty hard to score.”
