RP Singh Makes a Bold Statement About Umran Malik
We’ve always heard experts and fans say, “pace is pace” and finally the men in blue have found a bowler who bowls at a speed of 150+. However, despite pace being important, one cannot excel unless one works on their line, length, and swing. Umran Malik is India’s next superstar with the ball but his lack of understanding of the line and length as well as the issue with swinging the ball has made his journey difficult.
In a recent discussion, former Indian player RP Singh analyzed the bowling performance of Umran Malik. RP Singh acknowledged that Umran Malik does not have the ability to swing the ball. He suggested that the young fast bowler should learn from the career of legendary Dale Steyn. The former player thinks that varying his collection will benefit the pacer in the long run as he advances in his profession.

Umran Malik doesn’t have that ability to swing the ball: RP Singh
Umran Malik was smashed by the Delhi Capitals for 22 runs in his single over, failing to make any significant inroads. The paceman has taken five wickets at a pitiful economy of 10.35 in the seven games so far this season. Umran Malik has extraordinary speed that has given the team hope that he will pick up the crucial wickets in the games. In the current edition, the pacer hasn’t been able to keep up his rhythm and has instead been spilling excessive runs.
“Yes, one can debate on how SRH have used Umran (Malik) this season. But even as a bowler, you need to give that confidence to the captain that yes you can contribute towards the team. He has speed, and that is a big thing. If he can swing the ball like Dale Steyn…Umran doesn’t have that ability to swing the ball. The moment he manages to improve on that, maybe learn to bowl those cutters as well, he will be a different bowler altogether,” RP Singh said. He concluded by stating that bowling 150+ isn’t an easy task. With that kind of speed, the bowler becomes the captain’s first choice to take the ball during crucial times.
