RR vs GT: The high-voltage clash between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals on Friday ended in a one-sided affair. Hardik Pandya and his men thrashed the runners-up of last season with a dominating 9-wicket win. Rajasthan didn’t look to be challenging Gujarat at any point and surrendered themselves in both departments of the game. Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the decision didn’t go their way, and the whole team got dismissed for just 118 runs in 17.5 overs.

The GT bowlers didn’t let the batters score freely. Especially the spinners: the Afghan spin duo totally dominated the batters. Rashid Khan (3/14) picked up three wickets, and Noor Ahmad (2/25) took two wickets in the middle. RR registered their lowest score this season. Skipper Samson was the top scorer for the hosts, with 30 off 20 balls. From 60/2, Rajasthan lost the last eight wickets for just 58 runs.

Chasing the target, Gujarat got off to a flying start. Both openers added 71 runs in 9.4 overs, which ended RR’s hope for a comeback in the match. Shubman Gill was the first wicket to fall. He got out after scoring 36 off 35, and Yuzi Chahal dismissed him. Wriddhiman Saha remained unbeaten on 41 off 34 and hit the winning run.

However, the real cameo came from Hardik. He scored a quick 39 off 15, with three fours and three sixes. GT won with 37 balls to spare. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan lauded the defending champion for finishing the game and taking the perfect revenge. Notably, both teams played earlier this season, and RR won that game. In the post-match discussion, Pathan said,

“What a revenge they took – it was resounding. If you have to take revenge, do it like this, that you defeat them by nine wickets. It was seen today. Rashid Khan also took revenge. He came with a feeling of revenge, he conceded 45-46 runs in the last match between the two teams. So he didn’t leave them today. Overall we saw an extremely convincing performance from the Gujarat Titans on the field.”

Furthermore, Pathan also highlighted that the GT skipper looked to be on a mission to end the game earlier. Hardik smashed Adam Zampa for 24 runs in the 11th over. It was the biggest defeat for RR in terms of balls remaining in Jaipur.
