RR vs GT: “Reality Check Was Also Necessary”- Mohammed Shami on How 5-Run Loss vs DC Worked for GT
RR vs GT: After facing an unexpected defeat against the Delhi Capitals in the last game, the defending champion Gujarat Titans checked all the boxes in their next game against the Rajasthan Royals on Friday. GT locked horns with Sanju Samson and his men at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, in the 48th game of the competition. They didn’t let RR feel easy at any moment, and they chocked them to a massive nine-wicket defeat. Gujarat won with 37 balls to spare.

DC vs RCB | 6 May 19:30 PMBet ₹500, payout ₹935
Notably, it is the biggest defeat for the inaugural season winner at home in Jaipur. This win has come as a big hurdle on their path to the playoffs. On the other hand, with this win, GT has firmed its grip on the top spot in the next round. They are handsomely sitting at the top with 14 points and a NRR of +0.752. Gujarat needs only one win from its next four games to qualify, as they are the only team with seven wins in the season so far.

RR vs GT: “When we are on top we tend to miss some basics”- Mohammed Shami on defeat vs DC
In the previous game, the defending champion had a brilliant game with the ball. They restricted the Delhi Capitals to just 130/8 in the first inning. Mohammed Shami bowled a brilliant spell and picked up 4/11. But they couldn’t chase down that total and ended up with 125/6. Hardik remained unbeaten on 59 off 53 but was not able to take his team home. Ahead of the RR game, Shami spoke about the last match. He also said that they got a reality check. Speaking on Star Sports, he said,
Our approach remains the same, because our bowling was very good, and these things can happen with the bat. When we are on top we tend to miss some basics, forget the important things. We perhaps got too relaxed so that reality check was also necessary. It comes at a good time for us, we will keep a positive mindset now for the games ahead.
He also spoke about the environment in the team and how everyone stays relaxed, irrespective of the match result. After losing to RR earlier this season, GT has made it 1-1. They have now beaten Rajasthan four out of five times these two teams have met. Gujarat will now take on Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday in their next game.
