Saba Karim Opines T20 Cricket Has Moved Beyond Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli
The ongoing IPL has seen many of the young batters put up some great performances consistently. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nehal Wadhera, and Tilak Verma are some of the players who’ve exceeded expectations. On the other hand, experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going through their own battles. While Rohit Sharma is finding it extremely difficult to score runs, Kohli’s strike rate is the issue.

Speaking about the young lads and experienced batters, former Indian selector Saba Karim has acknowledged that the shortest format of the game has moved beyond the big names like Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. Last year, after India’s loss in the T20 World Cup, BCCI had made a decision to make a team consisting of younger players. Since then senior players have not been included in the team. After witnessing some aggressive knocks by Suryakumar Yadav and Jaiswal, Saba Karim took to Twitter to praise them. “When one sees Jaiswal and SKY bat, it is amply clear that T20 game has moved on from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” he tweeted.

T20 game has moved on from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli: Saba Karim
On the contrary, in a different discussion altogether, Simon Doull suggested Mumbai Indians to keep backing Rohit Sharma. He cited how CSK did the same with Shane Watson in 2018 and later on in the finals game when he produced an incredible century that won them the game. “When a team keeps winning without a player scoring runs, they can still continue to trust that player. This is what CSK did with Watson (in 2018). They carried him through the tournament and he repaid the faith in the final,” Simon Doull said.
Rohit Sharma’s form is crucial not just for Mumbai Indians but for the Indian team too. With KL Rahul ruled out of the World Test Championship finals, Rohit Sharma will have an additional responsibility to provide the team with a good start. It’ll be interesting to see how things will pan out going ahead with the senior players, especially in the shortest format of the game. Mumbai Indians are right now standing at the 4th spot with 12 points.
