Shane Bond Criticizes Mumbai Indians’ Bowling Unit
There was a time when the Mumbai Indians bowling unit was considered one of the strongest among all the teams. But, now, the team looks completely clueless in their approach. After the loss last night, bowling coach Shane Bond expressed his frustration over not proper execution of the plans. The current year’s bowling unit is the weakest Mumbai Indians have had in a while. The absence of Jasprit Bumrah and now Archer’s injury has made it difficult for the management to do much.
Chris Jordan came into the team as a replacement for Jofra Archer. However, Jordan has been one of the most expensive bowlers in the Mumbai Indians unit lately. In the MI vs LSG fixture, the England bowler conceded 50 runs in 4 overs which proved costly for the team. In the current lot, Jason Behrendorff has been the most impressive one with his ability to pick early wickets. Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff began well by picking up 3 wickets within 7 overs but no other bowler in the team could take any other wicket.

Shane Bond expresses “frustration” as Mumbai Indians’ bowlers repeat their mistakes
During the post-match presentation, Shane Bond said, “For me, the most frustrating thing is about not sticking to the plans that we talk about. We were very clear with what we wanted to do on this wicket to players like Marcus and where we wanted to bowl. We didn’t bowl there consistently enough. When you’re looking at a team plan, you’ve got to get the batsmen to hit in areas where you want them to hit. Make it as hard as possible for them. You don’t want them to hit you in areas that they want to hit. The frustrating thing is that we’re making the same mistake over and over again.”
Shane Bond further added that this has been a constant issue with the Mumbai Indians bowling unit. Referring to the innings played by Rashid Khan in the Mumbai Indians versus Gujarat Titans clash, the bowling coach acknowledged that while they made mistakes in the last game and won, it was not the case in this. He concluded by adding that there wasn’t much to do in the batting department but it was necessary for the bowlers to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again.
