Meanwhile, with his 42-run knock, Nitish Rana achieved a special landmark. He became only the fourth player for the two-time champion to complete 2000 runs in the IPL. He has scored 2019 runs at an average of 27.65 and a strike rate of 137.34. Nitish has also scored 12 half-centuries, with a best of 87. Former skipper Gautam Gambhir is the top scorer with 3035 runs, including 30 half-centuries. Gambhir also led KKR to 2012 and 2014 IPL wins. Robin Uthappa (2439) and Andre Russell (2143) are the other two players to complete 2000 or more runs for Kolkata.
The 16th edition hasn’t been great for Kolkata. They are placed in the second half of the table. Prior to this game, KKR had lost six out of nine games and had six points with a NRR of -0147. Kolkata is struggling with the form of its star players. Russell and Sunil Narine have yet to fire in this competition. The franchise needs to find a way before it gets too late, as they can’t afford more defeats in the IPL 2023.
