Sunil Gavaskar Suggests Ravindra Jadeja Should Try Captaining CSK Again
Tension grows in the CSK camp as the competition nears the end. MS Dhoni who is leading the CSK team for years now has been dropping mixed hints about his retirement. Therefore, the coaching staff will have to find someone to replace MS Dhoni. Ravindra Jadeja had taken up the responsibility last year but couldn’t cope with the pressure even for half of the season. This resulted in MS picking up the role again.
Former legendary player Sunil Gavaskar believes that the CSK management should give another opportunity to Ravindra Jadeja. During the 2022 IPL, the pressure of captaincy affected not only the team’s performance but his personal performance too. It’s never simple to lead a team, but Gavaskar noted that Jadeja can be a great choice given his background. As a way to keep him prepared for becoming CSK’s captain in the future, he also suggested that Ruturaj Gaikwad be named the team’s new vice captain.

I would give Ravi Jadeja another go at captaincy (for CSK): Sunil Gavaskar
“I would give Ravindra Jadeja another go. He could have not been at his best last year. Captaincy is not easy, he might have found it tough last time, but now he is experienced, and now he has come back. I would give Ravi Jadeja another go at captaincy. I would have Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain so that you are already building up for the future,” Sunil Gavaskar said. In the same discussion, differing in opinion, Aaron Finch mentioned that Ruturaj Gaikwad should lead CSK.
“The calmness of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the way he goes about his game. But there is that calmness, that such a huge part of being a leader, being there for everybody else and not just for you. That’s a big part. I would want him,” Finch mentioned. Speaking about CSK, their last match against Lucknow SuperGiants was interrupted by rain after the first innings. The match was eventually called off with both Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow SuperGiants sharing a point each. The two teams now have 11 points each but the Lucknow franchise has a better net run-rate. CSK will next play Mumbai Indians on May 6th.
