During the 2021 IPL edition, Harshal Patel was the purple cap holder. The RCB bowler was released by his team before mega auctions but was again purchased by RCB. However, this season has been a little below average for Harshal Patel. Ahead of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians reverse fixture, the bowler opened up on expensive spells, the importance of self-belief, confidence, etc.

RCB does not have a good record at the Wankhede Stadium. The most recent defeat they suffered here against MI was in 2019, after which they went on to lose three straight games against MI. With 13 wickets under his belt, Harshal Patel has had a respectable bowling history here. Both the teams stand in the lower half of the table and in order to keep their chances of qualification on track, both teams will try to win.

The confidence comes from the execution of skill: Harshal Patel

“The Confidence Comes From the Execution of Skill,” Says Harshal Patel

In a recent conversation, Harshal Patel spoke about how to deal with an expensive spell. Harshal Patel explained that the main aim is to stay focused on each and every ball. He added that despite getting hit for 50 runs or more, if a player has confidence, he could deliver a magnificent over that can help the team win the game. He further mentioned that bowling in Wankhede was different from bowling at the other venues.

“I strongly believe that even if you concede 50 runs in three overs, you could bowl your fourth over and win the game for the team. The challenge is to always focus on the next ball and that is how you stay in the game and stay in the hunt. The confidence comes from the execution of skill. So, the more you do it, the more confident you become. You have to change your sequencing a little bit when you are bowling at The Wankhede,” Harshal Patel said.

The last time Mumbai Indians faced Royals Challengers Bangalore this year was at Chinnaswamy. Tilak Verma was the high scorer for MI but Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli’s innings helped RCB win the game. The game in Wankhede is likely to see some changes in the Mumbai side with Jofra Archer being unavailable.
