“We Need to Pick Players Who Are Team First”- MS Dhoni Shares ‘Recipe for Success’ After CSK Make IPL 2023 Playoffs

Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 77 runs in their last league game of IPL 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and qualified for IPL 2023 playoffs. After the CSK vs DC game, MS Dhoni discussed the ‘Recipe for Success’ for his ever consistent CSK side.

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar asked MS Dhoni about the secret behind CSK’s success in the post-match presentation ceremony. The CSK skipper then explained the process that starts right from the points where they plan for the auction and how players are groomed by the Chennai Super Kings management.

“There is no recipe for success, you try and pick the best players and give them the best slot to perform. And groom them in the areas where they are not strong, somebody has to sacrifice their slot for the team. The players are most important, without the players we can’t do anything,” MS Dhoni said in the post-match presentation ceremony after the CSK vs DC clash.

“I think we need to figure out and pick players who are team first – not bothered about individual performance and perform the best at knockout stages. We try and adjust to the players and environment as well. Even if they come 10%, we can adjust 50% to fit them better into the team,” the CSK skipper further discussed about picking the right players.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings made the IPL playoffs for the 12th time. Mumbai Indians the five-time IPL champions are next on the table as they have qualified for the playoffs 9 times.

CSK have failed only twice in their 14 IPL appearances to make it to the knockout stage of the cash-rich league. In the year 2020 and 2022, they had finished at the penultimate position in the IPL points table. They have won the prestigious trophy in the year 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021.

After getting victory in the CSK vs DC game, the yellow army not only made it to IPL 2023 playoffs but have also positioned themselves on the second position in the points table. They will now face Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 1 on May 23.
