Of the current lot of fast bowlers in India, Umran Malik stands out the most because of his pace. The bowler from Jammu has the ability to bowl at a speed of 150+ kmph. However, one of the major concerns about Umran Malik is his line and length. Despite having great potential with speed, the bowler often ends up having an expensive spell. Ideally, the best way to work this out is by letting the bowler bowl as much as possible.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise picked Umran Malik in 2021 and then retained him last year in the mega auctions too. However, this year the franchise has barely given the pacer any opportunity to bowl. Umran Malik in 14 games had picked up 22 wickets last year but in 7 games he has appeared this season, he has been rather expensive picking just 5 wickets. Former SRH all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has expressed his opinion on the team’s handling of the 23-year-old fast bowler.

“This year, he (Umran Malik) needed your support. But did he get that?,” questions Yusuf Pathan

Yusuf Pathan Unhappy With the SRH’s Approach Towards Umran Malik

Yusuf Pathan was blunt in his assessment of the team officials for not supporting Umran this year. The former player acknowledged that last year the team took all the credit for the bowler’s good performance but now, has been dropped from the team for the team. “Last year, Umran Malik performed really well, and you all took credit for that. But this year, he needed your support. But did he get that? Was he utilized properly? He is a young bowler, he is India’s future. And he has played well for India whenever he turned up in international colours. You haven’t used him properly, and the same can be said for many players in the franchise,” he said.

After speaking about Umran Malik, Yusuf Pathan also spoke about Abhishek Sharma. The former all-rounder slammed the franchise for juggling the youngsters’ batting position. “This year, you juggled with his batting positions and even benched him at one point. You’re supposed to play with the opposition’s mind, not with your own players,” he added. Notably, SRH is facing RCB in their second last match of the season. Umran Malik and Karthik Tyagi have been included in the playing XI.
