PBKS vs RCB: Punjab Kings were up against Royal Challengers on Friday, May 13 in a must-win encounter at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The team successfully kept its playoff hopes alive as Punjab hammered RCB by a good margin of 54 runs.

There is no denying that the credit for PBKS’ success in the 60th IPL match goes to the batters. Put to bat first, Punjab batters made a mockery of the RCB bowlers. After a lean patch, the English batter finally showed his attacking batting skills.

Opening the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny hammered 66 runs off just 29 balls. Meanwhile, it was Liam Livingstone who added finishing toches to the Punjab batting innings. The all-rounder smacked 70 runs off 42 balls to take his team to an impressive score of 209 runs.

Chasing 210, RCB were never successful in gaining some momentum. The PBKS bowlers kept the Challengers on their toes. Faf du Plessis & Men collapsed at 155 runs. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowler for the winner as he scalped three wickets.

The way Jonny and Livi batted was amazing: Mayank Agarwal

Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal seemed highly impressed with the batting effort dished out by the team against Bangalore. Mayank heaped praises on Bairstow and Livingstone for their dynamic batting in a must-win encounter.

“We were brilliant with the bat. The wicket was holding up a bit. The way Jonny [Bairstow] and Livi [Liam Livingstone] batted, was amazing. We haven’t changed a lot to be honest, just about understanding few situations, understanding the wicket,”

Mayank Agarwal said during the post-match presentation.

Mayank has been essaying the role of a perfect leader for the team in the Indian Premier League 2022. He has demoted himself to the fifth place in the batting line-up to give Jonny Bairstow a chance to open the innings alongside Dhawan. For more cricket predictions and match guides for the 2022 season here.

When questioned regarding the same, he mentioned that his personal performance doesn’t matter as long as his team is on the victory path. With the scintillating win over RCB, Punjab have moved to sixth place in the points table. They have six wins and as many losses to their name,

“If batsman get going, it doesn’t matter, the boundaries don’t matter these days. Two points the most crucial thing for us. As long as the job gets done, I’m fine batting at [Number] five,”

Agarwal reckoned.

Further in the interaction, Mayank Agarwal also spoke candidly about the young seamer Arshdeep Singh. The fast bowler was the only player retained by the PBKS team management apart from Mayank Agarwal for IPL 2022. Arshdeep has been repaying the trust of the owners with his exceptional bowling, especially in the death overs.

Arshdeep is the go-to death bowler for captain Mayank. In 12 IPL 2022 games so far, he has seven wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.69. The captain was all praises for the young seamer as he hailed him as one of the leaders in the group.

“Very very energetic person, very confident guy. Enjoys his cricket. Must say he’s the leader in the team. He rallies around everyone, takes up the responsibility, even goes up and speaks to the bowlers sometimes,”

Mayank Agarwal said before signing off.
