Sanjay Bangar Backs Kuldeep Yadav to Be the Key Player for India

The men in blue are ready to lock horns with Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy. While the team has named 17 players for the test series, they have only one wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. Yadav, who was India’s best bowler in the Bangladesh series, has now received backing from former batting coach Sanjay Bangar. Sanjay believes that the conditions will be ideal for Kuldeep Yadav making him the most impactful player on the Indian side.

The Indian side has 4 spinners, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav to pick up from. Rohit Sharma will find it difficult to pick a balanced squad in absence of their main wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and main bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bangar was asked to name the guys to watch during an interview on the Star Sports program “Follow the Blues.” He anticipates that India would use the left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav in at least two Test matches.

“In the bowling department, I feel Kuldeep Yadav will be a big impact player because I remember the 2017-18 series at Dharamsala, he picked up those three or four wickets which laid the foundation for India winning the Test series. India has some very good finger spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja, and Axar Patel, whoever the team picks. But in at least two Test matches I foresee Kuldeep Yadav playing and keep making a big impact for the Indian team,” Sanjay Bangar said.

In addition to speaking about Yadav, Bangar spoke about Rohit Sharma too. He mentioned that due to several reasons in the past, the opener hasn’t been able to play 4 consecutive tests against Australia. The Indian skipper does not have a great record against the Aussies, in 7 matches he has just 408 runs with an average of 31.38. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will look forward to amassing some runs in test cricket. The Indian top order has been struggling in playing the spinners. There are speculations that the Nagpur pitch could be a rank-turner that will provide added assistance to players like R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Nathon Lyon, and others.
