SL VS AUS: Australia Skipper Pat Cummins Labels Sri Lanka Test Series As a ‘Reality Check’

“So to come away with a series draw, the same team that won last week. It might be a reality check that it’s tough playing away from home in different conditions to what we’ve grown up playing in. I think half our batting lineup and half our bowling lineup haven’t played much over here in the subcontinent. I think we got a lot of lessons out of it to take to India next year. Cummins identified the second morning as the time when Australia let the match slip away. Despite winning the first day and being 298 for 5 at the end of the play, they lost their final five first-innings wickets for 35 runs, resulting in a total of 364 runs. After hitting hundreds, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were still at the crease as the wickets dropped at the other end.

SL VS AUS: Australia’s Upcoming Challenges

Cummins stated that the lessons learned from the Sri Lanka series would also be used for the home Test series against the West Indies and South Africa and the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“We’ll review this series, try to put away lots of notes and ideas, then the bank that, put that to one side and work towards the home summer.”

Cummins said

The backdrop to Australia’s tour has been a severe economic crisis and significant political turmoil in Sri Lanka. Cummins and the Australian squad have attempted to connect and better understand the situation, including launching fundraising drives. On the second day of this Test, there were sizable demonstrations on the fort that overlooks the field and at the main junction in Galle, just outside the stadium.
