Former spinner Samuel Badree was announced as the assistant coach by the West Indies cricket board ahead of the ODI series. Upcoming South Africa vs West Indies series is crucial for both teams in order to secure direct qualification for the ODI World Cup later this year in India. However, Samuel Badree will only assist in the series against South Africa, after which the cricketing board will have someone else for the position.

Prior to picking up this position, Samuel Badree worked as a consultant for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Samuel Badree will work alongside an interim coach, Andre Coley. Shai Hope and Rovman Powell are the newly appointed ODI and T20I captains. The former spinner has represented West Indies in 52 T20I games. In addition to that he has also played in IPL for the Chennai Super Kings franchise as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore. Moreover, he was also part of the West Indies’ 2016 World Cup-winning team. The ODI matches between the two sides will be on 16 March, 18 March, and 21 March.
