WI vs SA: Temba Bavuma Opens Up on His Second Test Hundred

Prior to the start of the WI vs SA test series, Cricket South Africa had announced Temba Bavuma as the test skipper replacing Dean Elgar. The team won their first game of the series but Temba Bavuma couldn’t deliver during that game. He looked in good touch during the first innings of the second test but was dismissed for 28. Temba Bavuma kept his calm and reached his second test century on day 3 of the ongoing test.

Temba Bavuma expressed his optimism regarding more black players joining the Proteas after his century against the West Indies. The right-hander said that when he neared the three-figure threshold, his emotions began to overwhelm him. Since his debut for South Africa in 2014, Temba Bavuma has played as many as 55 test games with 1 century in 2016 against England before this one.

After the end of day 3, Temba Bavuma said, “With everything I do, there is always that angle, that perspective, the important and significant one that it is. I think us playing for the Proteas, it is about inspiring the next bunch of cricketers. Me, obviously being a black African cricketer, is allowing a lot more black African batters to come through, and really dream to come and play for the Proteas. To have their names entrenched in the history books. My emotions were also starting to pick up. And then I got a ball outside off stump and I was never hitting it on the ground.”

The African skipper finally was dismissed on 172 runs from 280 balls and the hosts gave the opposition a target of 391 runs. West Indies have certainly found themselves in trouble with 6 wickets down by lunch on a score of 34 runs. It is expected that Temba Bavuma and his team are likely to finish the game on day 4 whitewashing the visitors.
