Keshav made Bangaldesh’s seamer Khaled Ahmed his 150th Test wicket. Meanwhile, this wasn’t the only record shattered by the 32-year-old. He also became the only bowler in the Test cricket history to pick a seven-wicket haul in the fourth innings of two consecutive Test matches.
South Africa scored a brilliant win in the first Test match by a massive 220 runs. Batting in the fourth innings, Bangladesh were restricted to a paltry total of 53 runs as Keshav Maharaj picked up a seven-wicket haul. He conceded only 32 runs in his ten overs.

Following a record-shattering performance against Bangladesh, the spin all-rounder revealed his cricketing goals. Maharaj aspires to occupy the top spot in the Test bowlers rankings by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Notably, Keshav Maharaj has a long way to go to achieve his goal. As of now, he is sitting at the 28th place in the Test bowlers rankings. The top spot is captured by Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins. Further in the international, the spinner also mentioned his long-term goal.
Keshav wants to lead the wicket-taking charts in the longest format of the game for South Africa. He also wishes to play all the three formats of the team and help Proteas win the ICC trophies.
“Short term, I just want to keep improving day by day. I would love to be the world’s No 1-ranked Test bowler and I want to get a Test hundred as a batsman. As far as the team is concerned, I want to help the Proteas get to No 1 in the world in Test cricket.
I think that would be the pinnacle of most of our careers. Long term, I’d love to become South Africa’s all-time leading wicket-taker in the Test arena, while helping the team to win trophies in all formats,”
Keshav Maharaj said while speaking to SportsClub magazine.
Dale Steyn is the top Test wicket-taker for South Africa
At present, Dale Steyn is the top wicket-taker for the Proteas in the purest format of the game. The former seamer represented the country in a whopping 93 Test matches and ended up picking 439 Test wickets. Steyn is followed by Shaun Pollock on the elite list. Pollock has 421 wickets under his belt in 108 Test matches.
It will be tough for Keshav Maharaj to achieve the tag of being the top Test wicket-taker for South Africa. He is already 32-year-old and occupies the tenth position in Top South Africa’s Test wicket-takers list.
