The political unrest in Afghanistan ever since the Taliban took over has affected Afghanistan Cricket badly. The situation resulted in the ACB members getting visa approval for the players to travel and practice overseas. After that, the organization helped roughly over 2 dozen players to obtain resident permits for the UAE. The Afghanistan Cricket team has been practising and competing in the UAE recently, although only on a series-by-series basis. A formalized extended agreement is now in place.

Declaring the announcement between the two nations, Afghanistan Cricket Board said, “The ECB will provide valuable logistic support to the Afghanistan Cricket Board, including visa assistance and office space.” The assistance provided by Emirates Board has come at the right time for Afghanistan, keeping in mind the upcoming fixtures.

Afghanistan Cricket to play one T20I series vs UAE every year

UAE to Host the Afghanistan Cricket Home Games for the Next 5 Years
Afghanistan vs UAE

According to the Future Tour Program by ICC, Afghanistan Cricket is scheduled to host 4 countries. While Australia, West Indies, and Pakistan will only visit for one-day international series each having 3 games, Zimbabwe will play all the 3 formats. These tours are likely to be concluded right before the World Cup 2023 which will take place in India. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah will host the games.

Emirates Board secretary said, “Both parties, the Emirates Cricket Board and the Afghanistan Cricket Board enjoy long and cordial relations and we are happy to support the ACB in ensuring that they have a home for their cricket. We are also thankful to the Afghanistan Cricket Board for agreeing to play a series of T20I matches against the UAE Team each year. This will provide our UAE team with invaluable exposure and help in their development.”

The situation in Afghanistan has always been complicated and has made the development of the sport difficult. In the year 2015 and in 2017, ACB had signed similar contracts with India and Pakistan. Over the years, the Afghanistan Cricket team has done well and given some great players to international cricket. This year Afghanistan was one of the teams to have qualified for the T20 World Cup and has also qualified directly for the 2024 T20 World Cup that will be played in the USA and West Indies.
