T20 Blast 2022: By signing Worcestershire all-rounder Ed Barnard for a three-year contract, Warwickshire has achieved its first significant transfer target of the year. The defending county champions’ red-ball campaign was lackluster. They drew five of their first eight games and finished sixth in the Championship. Although they are now leading the North Group in the T20 Blast, they plan to get stronger during the winter. A seam-bowling all-rounder who can play in all formats, Barnard, 26, takes Tim Bresnan’s position as he retired. Warwickshire is also likely to finalize the signings of Moeen Ali and Saqib Mahmood in the upcoming weeks to bolster their roster with more star power. Paul Farbrace, the director of cricket for Warwickshire, referred to Barnard as “a major addition for the club” because he is leading Worcestershire in red-ball runs scored this year. And is on track to have his best-ever Championship season.

T20 Blast 2022: “Ed Will Bring Extra Dimension”: Paul Farbrace

T20 Blast 2022: Warwickshire Land Long-Term Target As Ed Barnard Signs Three-Year Deal
T20 Blast 2022: Warwickshire Land Long-Term Target As Ed Barnard Signs Three-Year Deal

“We believe Ed will bring an extra dimension to our team. And he is someone that we have always been impressed by and admired over recent years.”

Farbrace said

“I’m extremely excited to join Warwickshire and I feel it’s a really big opportunity for me. My ambition is to play at the highest level. And I am determined to win trophies with the Bears, play franchise cricket, and be selected for England. I will be forever thankful to everyone involved with Worcestershire from back in my academy time to the present day. I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunities to represent this terrific club. And develop into the cricketer I am today.”

Barnard said

After a 15-year run with the team, Worcestershire called Barnard’s departure “extremely regrettable” and stated in a statement that they had extended him a new contract, which he had declined. T20 Blast 2022: Ed Barnard’s Role In Worcestershire

“It’s obviously disappointing for our club, but we wish Ed well for the future. He has made significant progress in the last few years at Worcestershire and has become an integral part of our team in all formats. Ed wants to finish the season very well with us, and we look forward to enjoying our last few months with him before he moves on.”

Alex Gidman, their head coach, said

Since rumors of Warwickshire’s interest first surfaced a week ago, Barnard’s future has been in question. Teammate and Blast captain Moeen Ali, who is also being courted by Warwickshire, might join him at Edgbaston. Barnard, a graduate of the Pears youth program, has played regularly for Worcestershire’s first team for seven years.

He has made more than 200 appearances, scored more than 4,000 runs, and claimed more than 300 wickets in all forms. Several Warwickshire players, notably Adam Hose, Dom Sibley, and Olly Stone, have contracts that expire at the end of 2022. It is believed that all three of them are thinking about staying with the team.
