However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also named their 15-member squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup on Friday. They have made some surprising picks and some big guns didn’t get the chance to feature in the squad. The two biggest names to miss out are Jason Roy and Jofra Archer. Roy, who had looked out of place, didn’t get his place in the team. On the other hand, the star pacer, Archer, who has been struggling with his injury, has been ruled out.

England have gone with the same team that played against India and South Africa in the recent T20I series. Mark Wood and Chris Woakes, on the other hand, have returned to the team after recovering from injuries. Both experienced pacers will surely boost the strength of the team in the pace-bowling department. These two last played in a red-ball game against the West Indies in March and have been out of action since then.

For the spin department, England have gone for their two reliable spin-bowling all-rounders, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid. After a good performance recently, both David Willey and Reece Topley have also gained their place in the team, along with veteran seamer Chris Jordan. Ben Stokes and Sam Curran will be the two pace-bowling all-rounders in the team.

Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, and Jonny Bairstow will be seen in the batting order, along with skipper Jos Buttler. In the absence of Roy, Bairstow is likely to open the innings. Harry Brook (Yorkshire) and Phil Salt (Lanchasire) have also got the opportunities after some good performances at the domestic level this summer.

England is in Group 1 with New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan and two qualifying teams. They will play their first game against the defending champions, Australia, on October 22 at Perth Stadium.
