T20 World Cup 2022: The upcoming T20 World Cup is just a month away and will start on October 16 in Australia. In the past week or so, almost all the teams have revealed their squads for the tournament. On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming event. Pakistan has gone with almost the same team that played in the Asia Cup, with a few changes. One thing to note is that the struggling middle-order has retained their place in the World Cup squad as well. Seeking official betting sites in India? Thus, there were many former cricketers and cricket analysts that didn’t like this selection by the PCB. Star pacer Shaheen Afridi is back after recovering from an injury. While injured, Mohammad Wasim Jr. has also found a place. Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out due to injury and is part of the reserve players. Shan Masood replaced him and has got his maiden call for Pakistan in T20Is. Soon after the squad was announced, many ex-cricketers criticized the selected team.

T20 World Cup 2022: “Jab Chief Selector Average Hoga, to Decision Bhi Average Honge”- Shoaib Akhtar Tears Apart Pakistan’s Announced WC Squad

The squad received a lot of criticism from many, including the former pacer Shoaib Akhtar. There was speculation that Pakistan would go back to Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed to bring experience to the middle order. But they stuck with the trio of Asif Ali, Khusdil Shah, and Iftikhar Ahmed, who failed in the Asia Cup. Thus, Akhtar didn’t look happy with the selection. In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, he slammed the selectors, the coaching staff, and Pakistani players, including Babar Azam. He said,

“When the chief selector is average, his decisions will also be average. Saqlain(Mushtaq) last played cricket in 2002. I don’t think he has any idea about T20 cricket. I don’t think this is your forte. Our captain is also not cut out for this format, as he always looks for classic cover drives. He wants to look classic. If this team doesn’t perform, the whole management will be gone.”

Akhtar warns that with this team, Pakistan might get kicked out of the group stage. Pakistan will play seven T20Is against England and a tri-series in New Zealand before the World Cup. They are placed in Group 2, along with South Africa, India, Bangladesh, and two qualifiers. The Babar-led team will open their campaign with a match against India on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
