T20 World Cup 2022: On Wednesday, the West Indies Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Notably, the two-time champions will go through a qualification round before making it to the “Super 12”. It means they will have to play the qualifiers to qualify for the next round. However, the squad that was announced saw some drawbacks as the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine didn’t get the chance to feature in the team. This came as a shocker to many fans and the two world’s premium all-rounders, who are best suited for the T20 format, didn’t feature for their country in the marquee tournament. However, the selected squad saw a mix of both young and experienced players. Nicholas Pooran will lead the team with Evin Lewis and Johnson Charles making their comebacks to the team. Lewis, who featured in the last T20 World Cup, was out of action due to fitness issues. On the other hand, Charles played his last T20I in December 2016. The 30-year-old wrist spinner Yannic Carriah got his maiden T20I call. Bet online by checking more VIP betting tips from our professional expert tipsters.

Well, both all-rounders’ exclusion became the talking point as they are consistent performers in various T20 leagues around the world. Thus, their exclusion raised many eyebrows. Hence, the Chief Selector, Desmond Haynes, has come up with an explanation. As per the reports by Cricbuzz, Haynes said that Russell was not performing well, which led to his exclusion. He also said that they were unsure about the availability of Narine and whether he wanted to play for the West Indies or not. Haynes said,

We had a meeting with Andre Russell earlier. We’re still not convinced yet. He’s not performing as well as in the competition (CPL). I think in the situation with Andre Russell, we’ve just decided to move on. Yes, again, the captain [Nicholas Pooran] told me he’s reached out to Narine, but I’m not too sure he wants to play.

West Indies are placed in Group B in the qualification round. There are Scotland, Ireland, and Zimbabwe in this group. The two sides that will finish at the top will advance to the “Super 12” stage. The Caribbean team will open their account on October 17, Monday, against Scotland at Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
