India lost to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the “super four” of the Asia Cup and was eliminated. The major concern which occurred in the tournament was India’s bowling, especially the death bowling. The Rohit-led team failed to defend the totals of 182 and 174, respectively. It has raised many questions heading into the world cup. Many former cricketers and cricket pundits are giving their opinions on the squad. Former Indian pacer and 2007 World Cup-winning member RP Singh reckons that India is not among the favourites this time around to win the T20 World Cup.

The former pacer feels that after a dismal performance, India can’t go into the tournament as favourites. On Saturday, in a discussion with India TV Cricket, RP also said that India should not do many experiments now because there is not much time left. He stated that the Indian selection committee could go for a few other players and stick with the same.

RP further said that with minimum changes, the management should back the players in the home series against Australia and South Africa. He also pointed out some names that should be in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. RP said,

“I will pick Shami because the pace and bounce will help him bowl back of a length which is his strength. I have also added Kuldeep Yadav because even he can exploit the bounce factor in Australia. KL Rahul might not be in the XI but will definitely be a part of the squad.”

India will kick off their world cup journey with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23. The match will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both teams played in the Asia Cup twice, winning one match each. But the loss in the “super four” against Pakistan became the reason for India’s elimination from the tournament.
