Afghanistan became the next team to secured their place in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 following a decisive victory over Papua New Guinea. They join South Africa, Australia, India, and the West Indies, who had already confirmed their spots in the next round of the competition. Afghanistan’s win also means the elimination of New Zealand, taking their seeded spot in the Super 8s.

The tournament format includes four groups of five teams each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 8 stage. These teams are then divided into two new groups. The ICC had pre-assigned seeded spots in the Super 8 to two teams from each group. If a seeded team does not qualify, their spot is taken by an unseeded team that advances.

India now has two confirmed matches in the Super 8 stage: one against Afghanistan in Barbados and another against former champions Australia. Their remaining match was initially set to be against Sri Lanka.

However, with Sri Lanka already eliminated, their spot will go to another team from Group D, most likely Bangladesh. Bangladesh is in a strong position after wins against Sri Lanka and the Netherlands, and it would take significant changes in the current standings to dislodge them from qualifying.

India’s Super 8 schedule is thus shaping up with matches against Afghanistan, Australia, and potentially Bangladesh, assuming they secure their spot as expected. Below is India’s schedule for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s stage.
