England crushed USA in their last Super 8 match, securing a spot in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Chris Jordan took a hat-trick, and then Jos Buttler and Phil Salt dominated the USA bowlers. From nearly getting knocked out in the group stages, England became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024.

On Sunday, June 23, they secured a top 4 position by easily defeating the USA at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. England needed to chase 116 runs in 18.4 overs or less, and they did it in just 9.4 overs. Buttler and Salt gave England a strong start, helping the team chase the target quickly.

England’s victory was set up by their excellent bowling performance. The English bowlers, led by Chris Jordan, choked the USA’s batting lineup. Jordan, originally from Barbados, took his first hat-trick in T20I cricket, ripping through the USA’s tailenders.

Chris Jordan’s Hat-Trick and Dominant Batting Secure England’s Semi-Final Spot in T20 World Cup

Jordan’s hat-trick was historic, making him the first English bowler to achieve this feat in a T20 World Cup. USA failed to score a single run in their last five wickets, going from 115/5 to 115 all-out in just six balls, sealing their fate in the match.

All of Jordan’s wickets came in his final over. He became only the second bowler to take four or more wickets in the T20 World Cup, following Ireland’s Curtis Campher, who did it in the 2021 tournament. This week has been great for fast bowlers, with Pat Cummins taking two hat-tricks in consecutive matches and Jordan taking the third of the tournament.

England’s big win means they will knock out either South Africa or the West Indies on Monday morning. This is unfortunate, especially for South Africa, who have remained undefeated so far. The match awarded England spinner Adil Rashid as the player of the match for his impressive 4-0-13-2 spell. Rashid’s performance outshone Jordan’s hat-trick and Buttler’s powerful innings.

Rashid’s exceptional bowling in the middle overs took the momentum away from the USA. England’s win boosts their confidence, and they are expected to qualify for the semi-finals as the top team in their group.
