During the excitement of the 2024 T20 World Cup 2024, players were asked to choose the batter with the best pull shot in cricket history. The responses centered on two legends; Indian captain Rohit Sharma and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan favored Rohit, while South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi opted for Ponting. In a video shared by the ICC on Instagram, Ponting himself acknowledged Rohit’s skill, agreeing that the Indian opener is one of the finest pull-shot players.

Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting are among the most accomplished batters in cricket. Ponting amassed over 13,000 runs in both Tests and ODIs, with 71 centuries across 543 matches. He also captained Australia to two ODI World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Rohit has been a pillar for India over the past 15 years, scoring nearly 19,000 international runs and 48 centuries. Since taking over as captain in February 2022, he led India to the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup final last year.

In the ongoing T20 World Cup, Rohit has led India flawlessly into the Super Eights, maintaining an unbeaten record.

Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting Played for Mumbai Indians in IPL

Rohit and Ponting share a unique connection from their time together in the IPL with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013. Ponting was bought by MI in the 2013 auction and initially captained the team. However, after a series of low scores, he stepped down and handed the captaincy to Rohit.

Ponting scored only 52 runs at an average of 10.40 in six matches in what was his final IPL season as a player. Rohit, taking over as captain, led MI to their first title that year and subsequently to four more titles in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
