Australia suffered a humiliating eight-wicket loss to England in their third game of the 20-20 World Cup. During England’s inning, they were dealt with an injury scare as well. Ace batter Steve Smith was seen holding his groin after he tried to attempt a run-out. However, Finch has confirmed that Smith’s injury is not serious. “He didn’t mention anything. So I’m sure that he will be fine.”

Smith is one of the key members of this Australian setup. He has been in good form as well and scored most runs for Australia in the warm-ups and in the game against South Africa. Even though he has not played a real big inning, he is one of the key members of the team. With plenty of stroke-makers around, Smith can hold one end and play the sheet anchor role.

Former Australia spinner Shane Warne, however, is not in favour of Smith featuring in the playing XI. Warne was left baffled when Australia dropped Mitchell Marsh and played Ashton Agar against England. Warne felt if Agar had to play, then Smith could have paved way for him. However, Finch backed Smith’s selection and said the team was selected keeping in mind the conditions and the opposition. Read more about our 10cric app review here.

“That’s just subjective, isn’t it?” Finch responded when quizzed on Smith’s selection.

“Everyone’s got a different opinion on it. And that’s okay, we thought we picked the team to win the game tonight.

“It was not a reflection on how Mitch has been going at all, it was purely just a match-up.”
