The six-team league, promoted and operated by the ECB, specifically allows KKR to sign players such as Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, or any other player from its current or previous line-up in order to maintain their identity. Similarly, MI can sign Kieron Pollard, Tim David, or even Jofra Archer if they so desire. The same goes for the Capitals!
UAE T20 League: “Each player will be allowed to choose players of their choice,” ECB Secretary-General
Officials from the ECB recently met in Ahmedabad during the IPL 2022 final. The six-team tournament schedule is expected to be released following discussions with national cricket boards.
“Each franchise will be allowed to sign four players of their choice outside of the draft or auction which we will decide later,”Mubashir Usmani, the secretary-general of the ECB told Cricbuzz
The other three franchises are owned by the Adani Group, the Glazer family, and Capri Global. These teams may also have the same choice so that a level playing field is being ensured. All three entities are debutant investors in cricket leagues. All teams will be allowed a player fee of USD 2 million. This is the second-highest purse among franchise-based leagues after the IPL.
The UAE T20 league is likely to clash with the T20 league Cricket South Africa is planning. The CSA has already requested Cricket Australia to postpone three ODIs between the two sides on January 12, 14, and 17. CA, which recently released its schedule has kept the there game on hold. This is to ensure that their players can participate in the T20 league. The ECB has not yet decided whether to hold an auction or a draft; the latter option is more likely, to avoid the inevitable comparisons with the IPL.
